MOLSON INDY MONTREAL
A RIVETING SPECTACLE THAT'S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING
Who will win the inaugural Molson Indy Montreal and what lap time will it take to set pole position? These are just some of the questions on the minds of Quebec motor racing fans in anticipation of Round 13 of the CART FedEx Championship Series on Montreal's Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, August 23-25, 2002.
This unique event marks the first time in recent history that a CART series and a Formula One race will have been staged on the same race-track. Attending the CART event, however, will cost considerably less than its F1 counterpart.
The three-day race weekend ticket-price scale for a reserved seat is as follows: $245 for GOLD tickets, $195 for SILVER and $110 for BRONZE. Access to the paddocks (where the teams' state-of-the-art race car transporters, work bays and luxurious hospitality motorcoaches are located) is available at an extra cost of $45, while for an additional $45 surcharge, GOLD ticket-holders are entitled to pit-row access. The number of passes for paddock and pit-area access is limited.
A bleachers section has also been set up, with tickets available at a cost of $75 for the weekend. As for general admission tickets, racing fans have the option of buying a single-day pass ($20 for the Friday session, $35 for Saturday and $50 for Sunday) or a three-day pass ($75).
"It's normal for F1 teams to go about their business as discreetly as possible during a race weekend since they are basically attempting to develop and master the latest proprietary technologies from the world's leading auto makers," says Jean-Paul Blais, President and Chief Operating Officer of Molson Indy Montreal. "On the other hand, the CART circuit environment is quite fan-friendly because the cars are so evenly matched in terms of performance, and this puts the onus on driver ability. Parity among the teams and more interaction between its drivers and the race fan are the two major assets of the CART Championship Series."
Paddock pass-holders will have the opportunity to move about freely amid the many impressive race car transporters and motorhomes and observe first-hand the assembly and set-up of these sleek vehicles, see their favourite drivers up close and even ask questions of team mechanics, in addition to witnessing some the most competitive racing in the world.
